July 8, 2014 Minutes

LCAVFD minutes of July 8th meeting with Killen VFD

 

The meeting was called to order by President McCanless at 7:43.

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all.

 

Roll call with 10 of 14 departments present.  Cloverdale, Elgin, Oakland, and Lexington were absent.

 

A quorum was present.    

 

Eight of nine board members were present.  Chris Miller was absent.

 

Our guests were introduced:
    Laura Smith, representative from Mo brooks office.
    Kathy Murray, field representative from Mo Brooks office.
    William Smith, licenses commissioner, Lauderdale Co.
    Danny Pettus, candidate for county commissioner.
    Tim Greer, EMA/911.
    Chris Willis, Air Evac.
    Kelly Aday, Sam Newton Insurance and CCAVFF.
    Jimmy Looney, candidate for vice president AAVFD.

 

Other candidates that came in later were;
    Phillip Pettus, candidate for State House Dist. 1
    Augie Hendershot, candidate for Lauderdale County Sheriff
    Tim Melson, candidate for AL State Senate.

 

The minutes of the previous minutes were presented, motion to approve by Rick Snyder, second by David Charles, passed.

 

The Agenda was presented, motion to approve as amended by Frankie Phillips, second by Trent Putman,  passed.

 

The treasurer’s report was presented,  
    Operating account = $50,729.84
    Fire prevention account = $10,313.00
    Plat book account = $5,594.45.  

 

All accounts balance, motion to approve by Randy Brown, second by David Charles, passed.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

•    Containers, Ted K. reported on them, still in the planning stage.

•    Honor Guard, the Board has approved the application.  Kenny spoke about this, Randy Brown will be the commander.  Applications will be carried to all departments. Please get them back in ASAP.

•    Training books grant, has been received, 20 books purchased.

•    Disaster Response - Ted and Trent and the Chief are working.

•    Fire Fighter Online class, work in progress.  First Responder Course is required before the 160.

 

NEW BUSINESS

•    Fire Life & Safety Day, Saturday, October 4, 2014 at St. Florian with Octoberfest.
•    Pink Heals Tour, Friday August 22, 2014 in conjunction with Killen Founders Day.  Lineup at Brooks Elementary at 5:30 pm.
•    AAVFD Officer elections - motion by Randy Brown, second by David Charles that we endorse Derrick Gatlin for AAVFD vice - president, motion passed.
•    NWA state fair parking,  Sept. 16 thru 21  
•    2015 annual banquet entertainment - four nominations, Matt Fore,     Travis Howze, James Gregory & Dr. Carl Hurley.  Check them out and be prepared to vote at the next meeting.
•    Gary Cosby, Al Fire College, spoke about the Firefighter lost in the line of duty insurance.  Applications will be sent to all departments.  Please fill out and keep a copy on file at your department.    VERY IMPORTANT TO HAVE THIS INFO ON FILE.
•    Plat book ad, motion by Frankie Phillips, second by David     Charles to buy an $800 ad in the new book,   passed.
•    Federal equipment, report by Steve McEachron about the equipment some departments have received.  A law is to be enforced that this equipment is to be returned.  We will wait for further information.
