LCAVFD minutes of March 11th meeting at Zip City VFD


Pres. McCanless call the meeting to order at 7:15 P. M.


The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all.


Roll call with 11 of 14 depts. present, Elgin, Oakland and Lexington absent, a quorum was present.


Our guests were presented:

Brett Martin - candidate for Laud. Co. Sheriff

Rick Singleton - candidate for Laud. Co. Sheriff

George Gabryn - Laud. Co. EMA

Tim Greer - Laud. Co. EMA

Phillip Pettus - candidate for Dist. 1 State Representative

Josh Tatum - candidate for Dist. 1 State Representative

Larry Irons - candidate for County Commissioner, Dist. 2

Jonathan Berryhill - candidate for State Senate Dist. 1

Danny Pettus - candidate for County Commissioner Dist. 1

Chris Willis - Air Evac

The minutes of the previous meeting were presented, motion to approve by F. Phillips, second by S. Watkins, motion passed.

The agenda was presented, motion to accept by T. Kavich, second by J Marshall, motion passed.


The treasurer’s reports were read:

$64, 489.67 in the Operating account

$10,008.33 in the Fire Protection account

All accounts balanced.  

Motion to approve by R. Brown, second by F. Phillips, motion passed.



The containers were discussed, sketches were presented; project is still working.  Cleve Miles and Ted Kavich.


The Honor Guard was discussed; K. Laxson is working on this.


Platt Books were discussed, will try to get the Representative here for our next meeting.


Health screenings, Pres. McCanless handed out info on this.


By-laws and Articles of Incorporation were discussed; more info has been given to the Chief’s, need results back to Adam ASAP.


Fire Life and Safety Day was discussed, by common consent we will return to St. Florian Oktoberfest Sat. Oct. 4th.  The Parade was set for Monday night Oct. 6th at 7:00 P.M.





Pres. McCanless presented a Life Ins. option available to all First Responders,  this info was given to the Chief’s at their Feb. 25th. mtg.  $5,000 Ins. is free and available, just get with the Company,  address is in the agenda.  The rep. will be with us during the April mtg. 


Ladder testing will be done in May or June at the Florence Fire Station #2,  contact and number is in the agenda.


A donation of $250 for the upkeep of Ember, the arson dog, was requested.  Motion by F. Phillips, second by unknown, motion passed.


The repairs to the Smokehouse were discussed, motion by J. Marshall, second by T. Kavich to spend up to $250, motion passed.  After more discussion, the motion was amended to include $150 for additional cleaning. 


The purchase of a Bottle Tarp was brought up and discussed, motion by R. Brown to purchase one for $260, second by J. Maxwell, motion passed.


Cart generator repairs and prices were discussed at length, motion and second to hold off on the repairs for a while, motion passed.  Florence Fire will help us pay for the repairs when presented with a bill.


Back-Up coverage, Early notification, online notification and texting were discussed, changes possible, we will be notified.


Storm Shelter registration is in progress, Adam will have more on this at a later time.


Nominations for AAVFD officers will be done at the April meeting.


Shirts for LCAVFD members were brought up, Chris Miller will have more info on them at the next meeting.



Randy Brown discussed the upcoming AAVFD elections and expressed his thanks for the co-operation he received while serving on the 

LCAVFD board.


Steve Watkins commented on the Banquet and the Recruitment and Retention workshop hosted by the LCAVFD, other departments were impressed with what we have in Lauderdale County all comments were positive.


The 2015 banquet will return to Cross Point Church.



Ted Kavich discussed future training dates

April 7th - 11th - LPG trailer will be in 3 locations in Laud. Co.

June 2nd - 6th - Live Burn trailer will be in 3 locations.

October 27th - Nov. 1st - Live Burn trailer in 3 locations.

Positive dates will be posted later on the Group.

April     -----      Haz Mat training, 40 hrs.
