July 9, 2013 Minutes

The regular meeting of the Lauderdale County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments was held July 9, 2013 at the Killen Church of Christ Annex.  Killen Fire/Rescue Host.

 

Roll call was held with Waterloo, Elgin, Central and Greenhill Volunteer Fire Department Absent.

 

Special Guest were recognized:

Mr. Kelley Aday – Colbert County Association of Volunteer Fire Departments along wit representatives from the Spring Valley and Littleville Volunteer Fire Departments.

Chris Willis – Air Evac – Discussed a price increase for Air-Evac Membership.  Mr. Willis stated the $10 discount to volunteer firefighters was still in place.  In other business it was announced their new chopper was no in service.

Blake Hargett – Shoals Ambulance Service

Tim Greer – Florence/Lauderdale EMA

Melissa Hearn and Lisa Brown – Florence/Lauderdale 911

Air Evac 16 Crew

Carolyn Stewart – Ms. Stewart represents the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.  She announced an upcoming “Play it Forward” Golf Tournament to be held @ Deer Run Golf Course in Moulton, August 10th.  Sponsors are needed.  The cost is $200 per four (4) man team.  Several family members from deceased firefighters will be attending the event including Kelley Webster whose grandfather lost his life with the Moulton Fire Department.

 

A motion was made by Joe Eckl to accept the agenda with Joe Maxwell calling for a second.  No discussion.  Motion passed with no opposition via voice vote.

A motion was made by Joe Eckl to accept the minutes of the June Meeting with Frankie Phillips calling for a second.  Discussion entailed with corrections needing to be made.  Central VFD voted against the purchase of the Ambulance from Center Star VFD instead of Oakland.  Motion passed with correction with no opposition via voice vote.

 

The Treasures report was given by Mr. Steve McEachron.

A motion was made by Joe Eckl to accept the treasures report with Trent Putman calling for a second.  Motion passed with no opposition via voice vote.

 Fire Life and Safety Day – Board members met with Major Don Strait of the Town of St. Florian.  St. Florian Oktoberfest would like for the association to consider moving our Fire Life and Safety Day to their event from Lowe’s.  It was discussed that Lowe’s would continue to be a major sponsor for our Fire Life and Safety Day Event if moved.  A beer garden would on site.  The group was informed that a law enforcement officer would be present to police that area.  A motion was made by Cam Michael to move the LCAVFD Fire Life and Safety Day Event to St. Florian to be held Saturday, October 5th.  The motion also included the Fire Life and Safety Day Parade to be moved to October 11th in Downtown Florence.  Trent Putman seconded the motion.  No discussion.  Motion passed via voice vote with no oppossision.

 

A update was given to the group concerning the recent ambulance purchase from Killen Center Star by the LCAVFD.  Davis Charles is getting the unit ready for service now.

 

The association is still needing insurance payments from the following VFD’s.

Anderson, Center Star, Killen, Lexington, Rogersville and Waterloo

 

It was reminded that the association has two board positions that need to be filled asap.  This will be taken up at the next meeting.

 

New truck purchase was discussed.  One grant has been secured with other’s forthcoming.   This will be discussed at the next meeting.

 

New Business

The Florence Police Department has requested the use of our smoke house for the National Night Out to be held August 6th.  Killen VFD volunteered to bring the unit to the event.  Workers will be needed.

 

The following motions/votes were made in regards to the upcoming AAVFD Conference Elections.  A motion was made by Joe Maxwell and submit William Neal as the President for the AAVFD.  Motion seconded by Frankie Phillips.  Motion carried via voice vote with no opposition.

 

A motion was made by Trent Putman to submit Derrick Gatlin as Northern Area Vice President of the AAVFD.  Motion seconded by Joe Eckl.  Motion carried via voice vote with no opposition.

 

A motion was made by Trent Putman to submit Dan Hopkins as Central Area Vice President of the AAVFD.  Motion seconded by Joe Eckl.  Motion carried via voice vote with no opposition.

 

A motion was made by Joe Eckl to submit Charles Jackson as Southern Area Vice President of the AAVFD.  Motion seconded by Trent Putman.  Motion carried via voice vote with no opposition.

 

A motion was made by Trent Putman to submit Joe Golden as Treasurer of the AAVFD.  Motion seconded by Joe Eckl.  Motion carried via voice vote with no opposition.

 

Adam McCanless presented a proposal from Elkins Funeral Home.  Elkins Funeral Home will provide a casket and funeral services free of charge for any firefighter in Lauderdale County that is killed in the line of duty.

 

Tony Eckl provided discussion of the extrication competition coming up for the Fire Life and Safety Day.

 

There will be a meeting with Mr. Doug Hatton to discuss the upcoming ISO re-evaluation this coming Thursday.  All Chief’s and commanding officers are encouraged to attend.

 

David Charles reminded the group of a benefit for Cheri Miles that will be held July 27th at the Center Star Volunteer Fire Department.  Start time is 10 until.

 

It was announced the next meeting will be held at the Oakland VFD
